As a beginner, what are the basic programming skills or knowledge prerequisites that would be helpful to have for attending the workshop?
Ekaterina is holding a hands-on workshop in Zurich to help you build and deploy your next Python Data App from scratch. Interested in joining? Register here now!
📅 Wednesday, July, 5
🕘18:00–19:30 CEST + Networking after the workshop
📍On-site: Heinrichstrasse 200, 8005 Zürich
🎯Who: participants should have basic knowledge of Python and already have a GitHub account+ Python IDE installed (VSCode or PyCharm).
If you still are unsure of the topics covered and want to learn more directly from the speaker, read her interview below.
Ekaterina’s expertise has led her to become the Program Manager for the Data Science Program at Constructor Learning in Zurich. Her responsibilities include teaching Python, DS Toolkit, and Deep Learning, overseeing Machine Learning and Deep Learning projects, and developing the program’s curriculum.
“I believe that curiosity, learning from failures, and a willingness to improve are vital.”
In the next part of our interview with Ekaterina Butyugina, we’ll explore more of her thoughts and ideas. These insights will help you decide if this workshop is right for you.
Apart from technical skills, what non-technical skills or qualities do you believe are important for women in tech?
I believe that curiosity, learning from failures, and a willingness to improve are vital. Mistakes are natural and valuable for growth, but I know that many women are more sensitive when they make a mistake. However, it’s essential to embrace them as part of the learning process. Also, a lot of us have Imposter syndrome, and I encourage you to tackle it without any regrets!
As a beginner, what are the basic programming skills or knowledge prerequisites that would be helpful to have for attending the workshop?
Having some basic Python programming knowledge is helpful. If you have time, there are plenty of free courses available that you can explore in the meantime to enhance your skills. Additionally, we will be working with tools like GitHub and Python IDEs such as VScode or PyCharm. If you have it ready, you will benefit the most from the workshop.
During the workshop, will there be any specific tools or resources that you will be introducing to build and deploy Python apps?
Yes, we will work with the Streamlit — an open-source Python library that enables you to create interactive web applications and dashboards with ease.
How can the skills and knowledge gained from building and deploying a simple Python app be applied to solve real-life problems or contribute to industries where data science and Python are in high demand?
The pace in development and data science fields is crazy fast, so the skill of fast prototyping can be valuable in many aspects:
Data analysis and visualisation in industries relying on data-driven decision-making.
Machine learning and predictive modelling for various applications.
Automation and efficiency improvements in different sectors.
Data-driven applications and dashboards.
Can you share any success stories or anecdotes of women who have attended similar workshops and used their newfound skills in Python app development and cloud deployment to advance their careers or make a positive impact in their respective fields?
I have an exciting story to share! As part of our course, we usually embark on industry projects where our students collaborate with companies, applying their newly acquired skills to real-life projects.
In our latest batch, we were tasked with creating an application for a startup that dealt with blood test analysis. Previously, the startup owner had to outsource every single patient’s data to the university and wait a considerable amount of time for the reports.
Our talented team of students rose to the challenge and developed an interactive app. Clients could drag and drop a text file containing thousands of numbers, and within moments, they received a beautifully formatted PDF report. This streamlined workflow dramatically improved efficiency.
Impressed by our work, the startup offered internships to almost the entire team, allowing them to continue developing and enhancing this valuable tool.
It was a rewarding experience to witness how the skills obtained made a tangible impact, and we were thrilled to have the opportunity to contribute to the growth of the startup.
